Site Visits — Introduction

school children on a site visit

The following information has been produced with input from house building professionals and teachers, for use by both builders and schools. Its aim is to establish links between the two by raising awareness of each others needs during a planned visit to a housing site. This guide contains a step-by-step approach to enable a satisfactory outcome for groups of children carrying out a curriculum-related activity on a site under construction. Also included is planning, organisation and evaluation sheets for printing, and suggests activities and best practice organisation for a successful visit.

Please Note:
This guide does not cover every detail of a site visit but is intended to act as a vehicle for discussion between house builders and schools. A downloadable version of this document is available as a PDF (1MB).

"In order to tackle the need for new homes in the UK we must ensure that there are enough skilled people to build them. This guide will help to show young people that construction is an exciting industry, by taking them out of the class room and onsite."
