Frequently Asked Questions

When:
Balloon flights are made soon after dawn and around two hours before sunset when the air is stable. Our flights take place all year round (weather permitting). Crisp, clear winter mornings offer some of the best flying especially for photography. Between April - October flights are scheduled seven days a week. Throughout the winter months flights are scheduled week-ends only.

Where:
Most of our flights take place from Allensford Park, Castleside near Consett. This superb location is only 20 minutes drive from both Newcastle or Durham and enables us to fly over some of the most spectacular countryside in the North East.

Group/ Corporate flights can be from a location of your choice if suitable.

Who can fly:
Although there is no upper age limit for a balloon passenger, ballooning does require a degree of agility. Climbing into the basket is similar to climbing over a five bar gate. Passengers should be able to do this and stand for around 1 hour. All passengers should satisfy themselves that they are medically fit to take a balloon flight. Children should be over the age of seven and accompanied by an adult up to the age of 16.

What do I wear:
The temperature during your flight will be similar to that on the ground. We therefore recommend that you wear comfortable outdoor type clothing suitable for the time of year. Flat shoes/boots are a must preferably waterproof during the autumn and winter months. You will also find a hat or cap useful on hot summer evenings.

How long and how far:
Your flight will last approximately 1 hour after which you will be served with chilled champagne and presented with your commemorative flight certificate signed by your pilot. You will then be returned to the original launch site in our retrieve vehicle. The whole experience will last approximately between two - three hours. We can not say how far you will fly or where you will land - this is all part of the adventure of ballooning!

To fly or not to fly:
Cloud Nine has an excellent safety record, which is down to the skill and professionalism of our pilots and the strict parameters in which we fly. Ballooning is very weather dependant, winds, rain and poor visibility preventing our balloons from flying .In the event of your flight being cancelled due to unsuitable weather an alternative date will be arranged.

How do I book:
You can simply complete our booking form and e-mail direct, we will then contact you regarding payment. Or you can make a booking by telephone using a payment/credit card. Your flights tickets will be dispatched within 24 hours.
