Competition schedule for ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships 2015 confirmed

August 4th 2015 – The Competition schedule for the upcoming ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships 2015 in London this September has now been announced – and with a host of British athletes looking to make the podium, it’s set to be an exciting few days on the Olympic course at the Lee Valley White Water Centre, Hertfordshire.

As well as an appearance in the Canoe Double (C2) event from 2012 Olympic Champion Etienne Stott with new partner Mark Proctor and Olympic Silver medallists David Florence and Richard Hounslow, this year’s GB line-up will also feature up-and-coming stars such as U23 World Champion Adam Burgess, two-time World Silver medallist Mallory Franklin and European Champion, Kimberley Woods.

Days one to three of the Championships will be dedicated to qualifying, with days four and five dedicated to semi-final, finals and medal ceremonies.

Canoe slalom is often described as canoeing’s most challenging discipline, as competitors tackle white water rapids which test the athletes speed, agility and precision. Paddlers must navigate a sequence of gates in number order, set up over rapids, waves, eddies and currents along a 300m stretch of water.

The Championship comprises of both individual and team events – Canoe Double Men (C2), Canoe Single Men (C1M), Canoe Single Women (C1W), Kayak Single Men (K1M) and Kayak Single Women (K1W).

This year’s event will be a family affair, with a selection of family-friendly activities on offer – including a bouncy castle, climbing wall, food and drink stands and even the chance to have a go at canoeing yourself.
