FLORENCE_david image One hundred days from now, the biggest global canoeing event outside of the Olympic Games will return to the UK for the first time in 20 years.

300 of the world’s top Canoe Slalom athletes from 55 countries will descend on Lee Valley White Water Centre for the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, which will take place on arguably the world’s most technically demanding course between September 16th and 20th.

The 100 day countdown begins with Great Britain set to challenge for medals once again, just as they did three years ago at London 2012, backed by UK Sport. A successful European Championships in Germany recently, produced six medals for British Canoeing, providing a healthy platform on which to build for the Worlds when they begin.

The highlight of the competition proved to be gold and silver for Britain’s Kimberley Woods and Mallory Franklin in the women’s canoe single (C1W). Woods, who also won bronze at the U23 World Championships in Brazil in April, is looking forward to building on her performance at Lee Valley this autumn.
